The Importance of Career Mentoring Program
Participation in our Career Mentoring programs such as this is crucial; 85% of jobs in America are obtained through personal connections. Mentees who go through this program will benefit from the experience of mentors who have walked this path and know the skills and guidance needed to help someone else become successful.
Month 1: Professional Profile Assessment
- Learn how to improve your professional presentation through expert guidance.
- Mentors will help mentees by reviewing and providing feedback on how the mentee presents themselves to the world as a professional. Or, how to jumpstart their career in the USA.
- This may include feedback and support on resumes, cover letters, elevator pitches, interview skills, and online presence e.g. LinkedIn profile.
Month 2: Career Mapping
- Develop a strategic plan: Identify and achieve your career goals, whether continuing in your field or transitioning into a new profession.Mentors will support mentees in navigating career options and aspirations, and providing advice on best options based on the mentee’s goals and/or career trajectory.Mentees also benefit from mock interviews, jobs fairs, etc.
- Mentees also explore options on how to enter a specific industry, job market opportunities, training and resources needed, and programs available. Additionally, mentees can also take courses or work on skills they will need for the next job. For example, Excel or PowerPoint proficiency.
Month: 3 : Networking
Gain insights on how to build a strong professional network, access opportunities, and navigate workplace culture in the U.S.
- Mentors and the Master-Pieced team will facilitate introductions to help mentees expand their professional network. This may include introductions relevant to the industry, setting up coffee chats, and employment referrals or any other valuable opportunities.
Month 4: Coaching:
- Master-Pieced will partner with employees who can hire mentors from this program as interns and help them hone their skills and be ready for the job market.
- Mentors should work with mentees to set a goal to work towards, for example: 10 coffee chats with industry professionals within the mentor’s network by the end of 4th month or an internship with a company that is aligned with the mentee’s goals.
Month 5 & 6: Implementation and follow up
- Job Readiness Support: Help mentees implement what they have learned. Mentors and Master-Pieced Inc will support mentees to find jobs and continue to encourage them in their endeavors.
