Empowering Minorities for Success through Career Mentoring
At Master-Pieced Inc., we believe every immigrant and minority professional deserves the opportunity to thrive in their career.
Our Career Mentoring Program is designed to provide guidance, support, and resources to help immigrants navigate the U.S. job market, build meaningful professional connections, and achieve their career aspirations.
The Importance of Career Mentoring Program
Participation in our Career Mentoring programs such as this is crucial; 85% of jobs in America are obtained through personal connections. Mentees who go through this program will benefit from the experience of mentors who have walked this path and know the skills and guidance needed to help someone else become successful.
Time Commitment & Expectations
Time Commitment: In order for the mentorship to achieve its goals, we ask mentors and mentees to participate in one-hour meetings, two to three times a month, over the course of 4-6 months (12 hours total). These hours can be done in person, over the phone, or online, whichever is best for both mentee and mentor.
Show genuine commitment to the process and respect each other’s time. As a mentee or mentor, your commitment to one another is the foundation of a strong relationship.

- Complete the four to six month program and maintain regular contact with each other.
- Mentors support mentees to improve their employment profile and understand their career path in months 1 & 2, and then facilitate meaningful network introductions for mentees by month.
- Mentors are expected to engage with the Master-Pieced team by responding to monthly follow-ups. This helps ensure the mentorship is running smoothly and enables us to intervene and provide further support when it's needed.

Career Mentoring Program
This Action Plan serves as a rough timeline that mentors and mentees can follow, but can be altered according to the mentee’s needs.
We recommend that you map out a timeline at the beginning of the mentorship that aligns with the unique goals of the mentee.
Month 1: PROFESSIONAL Profile assessment
Profile Assessment: Learn how to improve your professional presentation through expert guidance.
- Mentors will help mentees by reviewing and providing feedback on how the mentee presents themselves to the world as a professional. Or, how to jumpstart their career in the USA.
- This may include feedback and support on resumes, cover letters, elevator pitches, interview skills, and online presence e.g. LinkedIn profile.
Month 2: Career Mapping
Develop a strategic plan: Identify and achieve your career goals, whether continuing in your field or transitioning into a new profession.
Mentors will support mentees in navigating career options and aspirations, and providing advice on best options based on the mentee’s goals and/or career trajectory.
- Mentees also explore options on how to enter a specific industry, job market opportunities, training and resources needed, and programs available. Additionally, mentees can also take courses or work on skills they will need for the next job. For example, Excel or PowerPoint proficiency.
Mentees also benefit from mock interviews, jobs fairs, etc.
Month: 3 & 4: Networking & cOACHING sUPPORT
Networking: Gain insights on how to build a strong professional network, access opportunities, and navigate workplace culture in the U.S.
- Mentors and the Master-Pieced team will facilitate introductions to help mentees expand their professional network. This may include introductions relevant to the industry, setting up coffee chats, and employment referrals or any other valuable opportunities.
Coaching: Master-Pieced will partner with employees who can hire mentors from this program as interns and help them hone their skills and be ready for the job market.
- Mentors should work with mentees to set a goal to work towards, for example: 10 coffee chats with industry professionals within the mentor’s network by the end of 4th month or an internship with a company that is aligned with the mentee’s goals.
Month 5 & 6: Implementation and follow up
Job Readiness Support: Help mentees implement what they have learned. Mentors and Master-Pieced Inc will support mentees to find jobs and continue to encourage them in their endeavors.
Mentors will:
- Act as a trusted advisor and provide ongoing support, guidance, and impartial advice to achieve career goals
- Provide guidance to mentee to explore their career path and options
- Support mentee to improve their employment profile (i.e. Resume, LinkedIn, and elevator pitch)
- Share understanding of your industry and USA workplace and business culture
- Introduce mentee to your contacts so they can build and expand their professional network
- Provide support and encouragement
